Wikipedia’s definition of Hospice care is a type of care and philosophy of care that focuses on the palliation of a chronically ill, terminally ill or seriously ill patient’s pain and symptoms, and attending to their emotional and spiritual needs. In Western society, the concept of hospice has been evolving in Europe since the 11th century.
For Pet’s Sake Veterinary Center’s definition of hospice care is a team approach to managing our terminally ill patients while in the comfort of their home. We aim to provide them with the utmost comfort and quality of life they can have during their final days, weeks or months. An initial physical assessment, with possible pertinent testing, and review of medical history will be used to guide our patient’s treatment and care. The client is pivotal in helping FPS manage the medical plan, by making close observations about the patient. Adjustments in the treatment may occur throughout the process. The goal is to provide both patient and client with kindness, respect and guidance during hospice care.
